Virgin Active Conference and Star Awards

Going from strength to strength

For the past six years, Sisters Act has coordinated and managed Virgin Active South Africa’s annual leadership conference and Star Awards dinner. The function takes place over two energizing and brilliantly-executed days.

Solution

The conference accommodates 200 delegates comprising of Virgin Active Exco Team Members, Club Managers, the Marketing team and various key players in the company’s trajectory. Delegates are treated to a fantastic day of key note speakers, discussions regarding the company strategy and processes to move forward and time for all teams to integrate and engage in critical discussion. But it’s not all business – delegates enjoy various arrival snacks, tea and coffee as well as two interim breaks to keep the energy levels up; and a delicious lunch catered for by the carefully selected venue. The conference is followed by the Awards Dinner – a spectacular evening where 500 Virgin Active staff members mingle and relax and enjoy the quality time and exceptional production that Sisters Act creates. Everything from incredible food to world class entertainment is organized and supervised by the strongest Sisters Act team players; ensuring that the client is not only happy but remembers their experience in the most positive way. Sisters Act manages every aspect of the function; from sourcing an outstanding venue to providing transport for all 500 delegates, as well as designing a stunning set, look and feel and entertainment for the awards evening – all within the client-approved budget.

Result

Sisters Act ensures that each element is of the highest quality so that the client and guests are able to immerse themselves in the event and walk away smiling and ready for a successful year ahead.

Sanlam Benchmark Symposium Live

No ordinary conference.

Sanlam Benchmark Symposium Live

No ordinary conference.

Every year, Sanlam Employee Benefits releases Retirement Industry research results that set the benchmark for the industry as a whole.

Aim: Sisters Act was challenged to present these findings at a conference in a way that created excitement amongst the delegates and confirmed Sanlam’s status as thought leaders.

Solution:

  • We started a rumour that had just enough credibility for it to be believable: That a new Minister of Pensions has just been appointed in South Africa.
  • We transformed the Sanlam conference spaces into "live" TV show sets in which the delegates became the audience.
  • The sets included film cameras, production crews, hair and make-up, and more.
  • The show was hosted by a well-known anchorwoman - Leanne Manas - who facilitated the debates, interviews and pacey presentations.
  • Fact or fiction? The audience was kept engaged throughout.

Result: The mainstream media grabbed the story generating millions of Rands’ worth of publicity.

British American Tobacco South Africa Leadership Conference

The League of Legends

British American Tobacco South Africa Leadership Conference

The League of Legends

Aim: To create a conference that would motivate BATSA employees and energise the team for the year ahead.

Solution:

  • Known as the League of Legends, Sisters Act created an elite BATSA Society and developed headquarters to match.
  • The space comprised two areas:
    1. A briefing room in which the team got to grips with the company’s progressive strategies and training.
    2. A seaside mansion hospitality area, which included a League of Legends Hall of Fame with fictitious characters that represent key company achievements.

Every touch point reinforced the theme. From League of Legend journals, badges and scarves bearing the society mantra to custom designed wallpaper, conference packs, concept food stations, lounge pockets, live music acts, extraordinary guest speakers, team building and more.

Activations

4th Street & Rihanna

A merger of two brands to create one big success story.

4th Street & Rihanna

A merger of two brands to create one big success story.

Aim: To showcase the 4th Street wine brand in a way that made it instantly recognisable and relatable to Rihanna fans. And in so doing, create a brand synergy that would positively influence future and continued brand loyalty to 4th Street wines - both for the benefit of the mainstream market and for VIP invited guests, which included local celebrities, bloggers and influencers.

Solution:

  • Sisters Act played on the touch points of the 4th Street pink brand colour, the silhouette of Rihanna's signature coif, her lips and diamonds - inspired by her Diamond Tour. Each piece was developed in a way to create a unique experience in the VIP lounge and the mainstream Activation space.
  • The process and excitement began with the hand delivery of black and pink diamond-shaped invitations to VIPs.
  • In the VIP Lounge: Upmarket easels were strategically positioned throughout the space. On each easel was a black silhouette of the Rihanna coif and pink luminous pens, which VIP guests could use to write a note or sign their attendance. The food and décor all reflected a touch of diamond bling - including the take away gift bags.
  • In the Activation area: make-up artists were trained to give the 4th Street buyers a pair of glitter lips, pink hairpieces or pink hairspray. Spray-on tattoo templates were also available for the male clients.

Result: The Rihanna VIP Lounge was trending on Twitter and the activation enjoyed significant volumes of spin-off publicity on other social media platforms, such as Instagram and the 4th Street Facebook page which kept on buzzing.

Savanna Launch Parties

A main market activation that is far from mainstream.

Savanna Launch Parties

A main market activation that is far from mainstream.

Aim: Launch 3 new Savanna offerings: Savanna in a Can, Big Bottle and Savanna Dark.

Solution :

  • Sisters Act created a series of outrageous Savanna-themed parties in selected venues nationwide.
  • Each party focused on one of the new Savanna offerings, creating brand awareness, putting product in hand and driving sales.
  • Highlights included:
    • The country's hottest DJs.
    • Oversized props (to support the Big Bottle Bigger is Better campaign thought).
    • Interactive "In the Can" activities.
    • Unique ROI items, bags, watches and a whole lot more "Its Dry but you can drink it" Savanna fun.
  • The parties also enjoyed radio and print support and spilled over into social media.

Note: Sisters Act not only contributed to the concept and managed full execution; we also drew on our main market experience and network of contacts to negotiate key venues in which to host these parties.

BP World Cup National Hospitality

A futuristic hospitality programme

BP World Cup National Hospitality

A futuristic hospitality programme

As the Fuel Sponsor for the 2010 Soccer World Cup held in SA, BP secured a significant number of tickets to the matches.

Aim: To assist BP to capitalise on their sponsorship, Sisters Act was asked to help BP host their global guests in a way that would reflect the organisation’s position as a company with vision.

Solution:

  • We developed a Corporate Hospitality programme that offered consumers a premium and innovative experience before and after the games.
  • We re-purposed BP's Head Offices in Cape Town and Johannesburg into Hospitality Zones, which included:
    • New furniture, décor elements and concept food stations.
    • Fun activities such as green screen photography (outside the Stadiums in SA), live car games and human foosball matches, plus a BP Concept Stand, featuring the BP Ferrari and a BP car installed with an interactive car video game.

Result: We demonstrated BP’s foresight, creativity and modernity in line with a company that's continuously moving forward.

Product Launches And Awards

J.C. Le Roux Brut Launch

Elegance with a surprising twist

J.C. Le Roux Brut Launch

Elegance with a surprising twist

Aim: J.C. le Roux’s objective was to launch their new Brut offering in a way that embodied the spirit and lavish energy of the brand.

Solution:

  • Sisters Act hosted the event at the Rooftop Terrace at the V&A Waterfront in Cape Town.
  • On arriving, guests entered a “maze” made up of six inter-leading rooms, each of which represented a step in the traditional process of creating a bottle of Method Cap Classique.
  • Guests were then welcomed to the Tasting Room in opulent style.
  • Sisters Act added a twist: A blank wall dramatically lifted to reveal a third luxurious entertainment lounge complete with a stage, casino, performance artists and food stations that served food which complimented J.C. Le Roux Brut.
  • Our other scoop was that we got Goodluck to play - a hard to secure music act from Cape Town that has taken the country and world by storm.

Result: The event set a new benchmark within the Distell group on event strategy and production. The feedback was overwhelmingly positive and the social media networks were lit up for weeks.

Beyonce Heat Perfume

The sweet scent of success

Beyonce Heat Perfume

The sweet scent of success

Aim: To launch Beyoncé Knowles’ new perfume into South Africa. Heat is a captivating fragrance that unleashes a spirited fire within and celebrates a woman’s powerful sensuality.

Solution:

Taking their cue from this inspiring fragrance, Sisters Act hosted the event in a glass building, which when viewed from the outside was lit up red – the colour of fire.
When the guests (comprising the who’s who in the beauty industry) arrived they were treated in true celebrity style: they walked the red carpet to the clicks and flashes of photographers and were welcomed by gorgeous waiters offering them a glass of bubbles.
In true star style the setting was glamorous, the seating informal and the food highly delectable.
What’s more, Sisters Act re-created a sampling room at the venue in which guests were taken through the process of how the perfume was created and the ingredients used.
On leaving, guests received decadent goodie bags, which included Heat samples.

Result :

Client was very happy as Sister act was able to capture their brief and allowed the guests to engage with the product in a truly glamorous environment.
